The event connected students with over 100 top companies through mentorship, interviews, and internship opportunities.
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to channeling the energy, creativity, and potential of Nigerian youths toward driving national economic growth.
Delivering a keynote speech at the 2025 Employability Fair hosted by Caleb University in Imota, Lagos, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, described young people as the nation’s greatest resource. He noted that government initiatives are increasingly designed to close the gap between classroom learning and the demands of the real world.
“Our mission is not only to empower young Nigerians but also to transform this vibrant population into a productive force for national progress,” Olawande said. “It’s not enough to have degrees — this generation must be armed with the skills, mindset, and networks to become employers, innovators, and value creators.”
He applauded Caleb University for its role in addressing unemployment through initiatives focused on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and job readiness.
The second edition of the Employability Fair brought together more than 100 leading companies from sectors such as banking, technology, manufacturing, education, and development. Students participated in mentorship programs, CV clinics, on-the-spot interviews, and internship opportunities with CEOs and HR executives.
Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, commended the minister’s dedication to youth development and expressed confidence in the global potential of Nigerian graduates.
“At Caleb University, we are not just producing graduates — we are nurturing future leaders who can thrive anywhere in the world,” he said. He also highlighted 10 key workplace habits for success, encouraging students to develop resilience, empathy, time management, a growth mindset, and digital competence, alongside consistent routines and value creation.
Representing PUNCH Nigeria Limited’s Managing Director, Mr. Adeyeye Joseph, Metro Editor Joel Nwokeoma urged students to focus on the value they can deliver in the workplace rather than relying solely on certificates.
“Your degree alone doesn’t secure you a job. What employers look for is the value you bring,” he said, sharing examples of NYSC members who earned permanent roles through their outstanding contributions.
Nwokeoma stressed that employment is based on merit, not sentiment. He also advised students to embrace values such as truth, reliability, independence, balance, and excellence — principles he said are crucial for success in any career.
