Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday visited the Kaduna home of late former President Muhammadu Buhari to offer condolences.

She was joined by spouses of National Assembly members and several governors’ wives. Former First Lady Aisha Buhari welcomed her, and the two shared a warm embrace.

The visit comes just weeks after Buhari passed away in London on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, following a long illness.

Buhari’s public life spanned both military and democratic leadership. He first came to power through a coup in December 1983, leading the country until 1985. His government became known for the “War Against Indiscipline” initiative, which promoted anti-corruption values but drew criticism for its strict authoritarian style.

After years away from the presidency and several unsuccessful runs, Buhari achieved a historic win in 2015 by becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting Nigerian president. He secured re-election in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023.

In the wake of his death, President Bola Tinubu announced a week of national mourning and ordered flags flown at half-mast. Buhari’s remains were returned from London and laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
