VeryDarkMan Leads Candlelight Procession in Awka for Slain Businessman Fish Magnet
Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, led a candlelight procession in Awka for slain businessman Ifesinachi Onyekesi, also called Fish Magnet, who was kidnapped and murdered by unidentified gunmen. The march drew hundreds of youths protesting rising insecurity in Anambra and across Nigeria.
On Tuesday, popular social media personality Martins Otse, widely known as “VeryDarkMan” (VDM), led a candlelight march in Awka, Anambra State, in honour of murdered businessman Ifesinachi Onyekesi, popularly called “Fish Magnet.”
Fish Magnet, a well-known fish dealer and CEO of Fish Magnet Outlet, was recently kidnapped and killed by unidentified armed men. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 27, when he was attacked at his home in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area. The assailants reportedly shot him in the leg before abducting him, and he never returned alive.
The brutal murder, which claimed the only son of an APGA women leader, sparked outrage among residents, public figures, and online communities. Deeply moved by the tragedy, VDM organised a candlelight walk to mourn the victim and demand action against insecurity.
Hundreds of young people, all dressed in black, joined the procession. They began at Aroma Junction in Awka, singing protest songs as they marched through several streets of the state capital, condemning the rise in violent crime.
During the march, VDM strongly criticised the state of security in Anambra and across Nigeria, blaming it on the failure of law enforcement agencies.
“The government is not doing enough to safeguard lives and property,” he said. “Armed criminals, including killer herdsmen and terrorists, are equipped with weapons more advanced than those of the police. How can we survive in such a system? The killings are too much, and we are not happy about it.”
